The Challenge: Blank Pages Kill Email Marketing
Most Irish and UK SMEs know email newsletters work. The ROI is there. The problem is time.
Business owners tell me the same thing: “I know I should email customers, but I don’t know what to write.” Agencies quote €500+ just to get started. So the newsletter never gets sent.
At the same time, I needed a lead magnet for my own business, ClickAndSend. A PDF guide is fine. But I wanted something that proved I could write email, use AI well and build the tool myself. No signup walls. No friction. Instant value.
The Idea: 60 Seconds, 3 Topics, 1 Sample Email
The brief was simple:
If someone types their business name, website and email into a form, they should get 3 newsletter topics that make sense for their business, plus 1 complete sample email they could actually send. All in UK English, no emojis, no hype.
If they want more, they can opt in for a free guide. If not, they still walk away with something useful.
That became ClickAndSend AI Demo v1.9
How I Built It
I built this as a custom WordPress plugin so it runs on any WP site without relying on third-party SaaS.
1. The Front End
A shortcode integration renders the form. It includes Cloudflare Turnstile for bots, a hidden honeypot field and a required GDPR consent checkbox. Rate limiting stops abuse: 3 uses per IP per day, with an IP whitelist for testing.
2. The AI Layer
When submitted, the plugin sends the business name + website to GPT-4o-mini with a strict prompt. The job: 1) infer what the business does from the site, 2) suggest 3 customer-focused topics with one-line explanations, 3) write one 150-180 word sample email. Tone = warm, professional, UK spelling, short paragraphs.
3. Delivery + Tracking
The email is sent as HTML via `wp_mail`, with a branded CTA and UTM tracking. Every submission is saved to a custom database table. In the WP admin, I get a “CSD Leads” dashboard with status tags: `New > Contacted > Hot > Not Interested > Unsubscribed`. I can add notes, export to CSV and filter by status.
4. Optional CRM Hook
If someone ticks the marketing consent box, the plugin checks ClickAndSend Mailing List first. If they’re new, it adds them. If they’re already subscribed, it tags them as `already`. All API responses are logged privately for debugging, never shown to the user. The user is also sent a welcome email with Free Guide PDF “4 Essential Emails to Send”.
The Result: Value First, Leads Second
For visitors: They get 3 relevant ideas and a sample email in under 60 seconds. No card. No account. Just value.
For the business: Every submit is a qualified lead with business name, website, email and consent status captured. The sample email ends with a soft CTA to book a call for the Done-For-You newsletter service.
For me: I now have a reusable asset. The same plugin can be white-labelled for clients who want a lead-gen tool on their own site.
